From Shadows to Light — Liszt in Context

Lecture–recital · approximately 3 hours (with intermission)

An evening where music and words trace a path from shadow to light. Selected piano works by Franz Liszt unfold as a single dramaturgical arc: a dark, pulsing outset gradually clears; lines come into focus; and, at the end, form holds everything together. Short, focused introductions and one or two pianist‑led examples before each work open the ear—precise, accessible, and free of jargon.

What it’s about

Not the nebulous and grand, but audible dramaturgy: motives, gesture, transition. The music widens from concentrated beginnings to a gathering clarity at the close. Works include Ballade No. 2, Petrarch Sonnet 104, Consolation No. 3, Liebestraum No. 3, and the Sonata in B minor.

The experience

concise framing before each piece (motive, gesture, form)

a clear arc: tension → opening → synthesis

two brief audience conversations (Q&A)

“For me it is a dialogue between shadow and light—music that moves from density to clarity.”
— Mimoza Kjeka
